| | Q: There is a slight jumping on the screen of our desktop computers. Could this be due to the fact we are next door to a large electric supply transformer? A: It could very well be the case. The 'frame amplifier' used on the monitors are sensitive to 50Hz interference as they use a 'phase locked loop' system to hold the screen steady. There are unfortunatley no low-cost | | | Q: During safety tests for our new design of commercial washing machine, it was found that the Earth Leakage Current was higher than the 3.5mA allowed for portable products. What can I do? A: Look carefully at the power filter. I suggest that two large 'Y' class capacitors are used causing the high leakage. Suggest you change your filter supplier. If this is not the answer, then some important investigation is required, as there is a potential safety issue here. | | | Q: Do control panels need a CE mark? A: If they are sold to an end user for him to integrate into a system, yes. If they are sold only to a machine builder who assembles the final product, no. | | | Q: How can I show due diligence when assembling products and systems from CE marked sub-assemblies or apparatus? A: It's difficult to offer general guidance here due to the range of different situations. A computer system assembled from finished products (i.e. keyboard, mouse, monitor, power supply etc) may need no further assessment; there is only one way these can be interconnected and they will have been assessed as completed products by their manufacturers. A machine consisting of PLCs, motor drives, encoders, sensors, etc. may require a full assessment. |
